I just started knitting and I have trouble casting on. I know how to but when I do like 5 or 6 stitches the yarn gets all tangled up at the end that's not on the needle after I pull it through. I hope this question makes sense because I REALLY need help!!! Leave knitting tips also, that would really help me...

  1. I would check this site out for a video on casting on:

    http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/cast-...

The Long-Tail Cast-On is the most common, and is probably the one you are having trouble with, but there are more shown.  This site has MANY videos to help with questions you may have and has knitting tips from getting started, to advanced techniques.

I refer to it often.  I find it is easier to learn from a video than pictures.  Give it a look - and don't give up, you will catch on to it!

  2. I used to have the same issue so I started using the Cable caston for everything.  This makes a strong & slightly flexible edge.  To do the Cable caston, you use the standard slip knot to start, you knit the first stitch onto the left needle & then you put your right needle between the two stitches.  You knit the stitch & put back on the left needle.  You then do the same for stitches 2 & 3, then 3 & 4, and so on.  I know it is a bit confusing to read but just try it and you will see it really is much easier than most others.  Any questions, just email me

  3. i cast on (and it works for me) by doing a slip knot and then i start to do a knit stitch (putting the needle through, wrapping yarn around the two needles, pulling it through) and before you pull off the stitch you put the pulled through yarn onto the needle... idk if thats even right but its always worked for me! And hopefully it makes sense!

  4. You may go to a yarn shop (knit shop). They can show you different ways of casting on. Once you see how it is done,

I am sure you will have no further  problems. All cast-ons are

    really simple.
