I've had two or three before but i just bought them from friends. I want a really good one that sounds good yet cheap. Thanks for all the input. Oh yeah by the way, it will be used for off road and highway use.

  1. antenna is easy a 102 inch metal whip. Mounted high and as close to the center of your ride as possible.

anything else and you will get less than the best signal strength.

Radios, how much money you want to spend?

Most 40 channel radios are c**p. When the band was deregulated in the 80s, all the big noise makers went crazy and its an unruly mess now.

Id be looking for an outlaw multiband import. The have USB/LSB and FM. That's where you can talk, and get away from the crocagators.

If your lucky you might find someone that can wire the phase lock loop in a Cobra 148xl, to do the same stuff, minus FM.

Exspect to pay $3-400 for this type of radio.

PA it dont matter, any ole waterproof one will do.
