  1. check if the voltage it was designed for is 240 v . the cables are just positive and negative presumably , check the lampholder end of the lamp . That's why in Britain we have things colour coded , to reduce potential problems like setting on fire or a big bang .

  2. With power to a lamp, it doesn't matter which wire goes to which prong of the two prong plug. Lamps don't usually have an earth wire, just 2 wires.

Check the voltage and use the correct bulb...110V or 220V depending on your power supply. 50 or 60 cycles make no difference either.

  3. if it is just a light with a conventional bulb it will work if you connect it to the Live (fused) & neutral pins on a 13 amp plug .... do not connect the earth pin (centre)

&  make sure it has the correct voltage bulb fitted.

  4. If you don't want to mess on changing the plugs just buy an electric razor travel adaptor and plug it into that.Buy them from any hardwareshop for about £1.

  5. 2 ways

    1, buy a plug adapter

2, remove current plug, should leave you with 2 wires. (brown is live, blue is return) wire these into a UK plug as you would normally, there won't be an earth to wire in but this shouldn't be a problem.

Edit: Helpful that they are both the same, hmmm. It's a very simple circuit so it shouldn't matter which way round the wires go.
