i am going to be choosing my contemporary piano solo for my repertoire soon. any suggestions? i like really pretty songs, preferably andante or such, no allegretto or higher, and usually they end up being in a minor key. i have no preference on composers, just remember, CONTEMPORARY.

  1. fur elise

i can play the first page

  2. Prokofiev sonata no 7, Beethoven appassionata...Sorry, i dont like contemporary Classical...Try Boulez piano sonata. Good luck

  3. Ugh...not many good recommendations so far.

Debussy: either of the Arabesques, Suite Pour le Piano, or some Preludes, either book of Images

Prokofiev: look into the Visions Fugitive.  There are several movements, but it's okay to just pick a few.

There might be something you like from Muczinsky's Suite for Piano.

Check out Rzewski's 4 North American Ballads.  One of those might suit you.

I'm drawing a blank now.  It's hard thinking of contemporary piano pieces that aren't insanely difficult!

  4. Berg Sonata Op.1,  It is amazingly contempary for a piece written about 80 years ago and is in B Minor, it's quite tricky though but once it's played right it's beautiful.
