Help with chords??

I dont understand what the slash betwwen 2 chords means; for example:

E/G... F/A or whatever

Help??

  1. Go to this site, it's very good for guitarist, as for chords, you name the chord and they show you how to make it.....there's tons of information on this site, even a free electronic tuner. As for theory, you may want to google a site or buy a book explaining chord formation !!!!!!!!  Google this; how chords are formed, maybe this will help you to understand, good luck, and I hope that this helped !!!!!!!!   2. What this means is -- play the chord indicated to the left of the slash with the bass note indicated to the right of the slash.  So F/A means -- play an F chord with A (open 5th string) as the lowest note (bass note).

    A chord marked A/C# would mean play an A major chord with a C# note (4th fret on the 5th string) as the bass note.  In this case you would have to change how you usually finger the A chord in order to add that bass note into the chord.

    An Em/G would mean play an E minor chord with a G (3rd fret on 6th string) as the bass note.  Again, you'd have to add that low G into the chord by changing the fingering of the chord.
