Question:

Help with closet doors?

The closets in my daughters rooms are metal with a wall paper (I am guessing) type overlay to mimic wood. It is so tacky looking and feels like wall paper. I have tried to pick a little and it will not lift at all. It was made that way I believe. Is there any way to paint over that? What could I put on first to make the paper, or whatever it is, ready to accept the paint? Any ideas welcome. We are repainting their rooms and these are doors are just plain ugly and we would like to paint them in a contrast color.

  1. here's a trick to getting wallpaper off.run a steamer (used for clothing) over the wallpaper slowly and it should peel off. You might have to work with some of the underneath layer if it doesn't come off with it but, other than that it should come off perfectly fine.(if it is wallpaper)

  2. you could remove the door  and prime it then apply a coat of paint to it , or if it's not a sliding door you could paint it and hang a mirror over the door to add a bit of charm to it , or just buy a new door for the closet .I will look for some ideas ,keep checking at my answers I will add new post from time to time.

you could prime the door ,then painted white and do this kind of decor to them or even add some decals.

Or you could remove the door and hang some nice curtains instead .

Or you could paint it and add some decorative tape just like so

  3. You might consider replacing the doors. They are fairly inexpensive and will give a fresh look.
