Question:

Help with clothes dryer fanbelt?

I'm working on fixing my clothes dryer's fanbelt (it finally gave out). I've installed the new one, but the tumbler doesn't want to turn even when the machine's on. I can turn it myself, but it's still broken. What am I doing wrong? Is there anything special i should do too? Thanks, people.

  1. The first thing that comes to mind is the adjustment to tighten the belt.  If you run it and can watch it, does the belt appear to be slipping on the drum?  Can I assume you installed the correct size belt?  Does the drum have any grease or lubricate points at each end where it turns?  I noticed that my Sears tech added some kind of a Black lubricant to my dryer's drum when he performed maintenance on it.  Check that out.
