On my axel I can get a full rotation, but I just find it difficult do cross my legs in air. I can do what you might call an "open axel". I've been working on Axel for about 3 weeks now. When ever I try to cross my legs I fail. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

  1. I had the same issue until litterally a month ago. For 5 years I did the "waxel" as my coach called it. I took a two week break from on ice axels and did off ice ones(wich for some reason i could get my legs crossed on) and watched a ton of good axel videos. I was basically eating, breating, and sleeping perfect axels.

When I went back, I had my axel perfect and clean. My coach was totally surprised and I haven't gone back to the "waxel" yet(knock on wood).

Good luck and don't stop trying!!!

  2. i never cross my legs on a double sow. Try doing harness work, jump on a trampoline, or jump off ice. (like you would be doing a axel.  If it just doesnt come, get speed and height with your axel. As i said, I never cross my legs on my double sow, but everything else. It's strange.

  3. Practice back spins and getting a good position in your spin.  Try doing  a back spin and before pulling in, jump and land.  Also do an axel "walk through"....walk through the take off and snap into a back spin.  Work on them til you can't stand it anymore....and hopefully, the cross will just become second nature.  :)

  4. What I would suggest is that you do, is act like you are attempting to do a double axel and that should really help your jumps. By doing a double you have to pull in as tight as possible and pull your leg down... I have been skating for nine years now and that has worked for me.

    Good luck and sk8 gr8!!!
