  1. With the curtains, choose fabrics that are light, so as not to make it look heavy. also choose light airy colors that are available for the fabric. then use the same hues in the throws and pillows and other soft furnishings.

with the paint, you can do a lighter cool shade of green or ecru so as to counter the warm dark living room color you have

  2. A strong cream color, or a light sage or olive green for the curtains- keep it earthy.  I love terra cotta walls - good luck!

  3. I worked for a long time with designers and retail stores, you could use white, gold, and yellow as accent colors to iluminate the room, get a nice multicolor carpet or pillows to blend all color in the room. If you want to go a little bit crazy on the colors use lime green or blue to give a little of punch. but if your want the room more into a relax zone, spa like, go with chocolate, white, offwhite and golds.  Remember to get great artwork and decorative accesories that in reality is what makes the room come together.

  5. You need texture and pattern. If you can still find them, Target has a sheer curtain with a paisley pattern. It has terracotta, brown, tan, and peach in it. Really pretty. Use dark brown wicker baskets and furniture. It really makes the terracotta pop! Use a sand or tan color in the hall.

  6. Sounds like Spanish style with a modern twist??  I would do bright white, but thick so they glow with sunlight, but block rays when closed.

Or another option is incorporating another color in the place like red or green and get matching pillows and little decorations around the room.  That could be the color you paint you hall too!  a nice muted red (like brick red) or earthy grey green.  Ours is red in the living room and terracotta in the hall, but all the decor has a reddish gold theme. Sounds cheesy, but very elegant.  I prefer modern twist too, but my roomie is traditional.

  7. I would choose like a samon colour for your curtains, like a peachy colour

    Good luck
