Could anybody tell me if it would be a good idea to exercise/workout before, or after having a meal or breakfast?

  1. There is nothing especially wrong with either, so long as you apply common sense.

If you workout before a meal, especially breakfast then you have to realise that your blood sugar levels are likely to be low and this means that your performance will not so good and that your body will need to raise those sugar levels.  Yes it will do this by mobilising fat but it's likely to first use some of your muscle mass which isn't so useful.   An energy type drink taken first can sometimes overcome this.

Exercising after a meal is generally the recommended method, but remember to allow enough time for your meal to digest otherwise you may find yourself wanting to throw up, which isn't great.
