Help with distance..please-maryland university and washington DC air port?

The college is 40 miles east of the airport and about an hour's drive in the best of conditions.  That being said, the Capital Beltway is not a pleasant place to be driving for a traveler.  The DC area has excellent public transportation, and I'd highly recommend you use it.

From the airport, get on the 5A bus to L'Enfant Plaza in Washington.  The bus departs from Dulles all day and takes about 50 minutes to get to central DC.  From L'Enfant Plaza, transfer to the Metro Green Line to College Park station.
