  1. When DNA replicates, several amino acids do certain functions. First, the DNA is 'unwound', and then 'unzipped'. When it is unzipped, nucleotides come in to fill in the complimentary mRNA strand. As a result, two DNA strands are formed from the one original. Does that answer your question?
