My puppy has had loose stools for almost 2 months, its not diarrhea, and we've kept her on a steady diet for those 2 months. she eats normal, drinks normal, and acts very normal. She has lots of energy, and the vet said she doesn't have worms. Is there a way i can firm up the stools??

any help you can give me would be great!

  1. take it to a vet

  2. add flour and stir.

  3. It could be that her dog food doesn't completely agree with her.

You can add some canned pumpkin (about a tablespoon or so, and make sure it's plain pumpkin not pumpkin pie filling) to firm up the stools, but that's more of a band-aid approach, not a permanent solution.

    .

  4. it could be the dog food:even though its high quality, the dog is not tolerating it.Try a good dog food with lower protein and lower fat:i had a dog many years ago, he could not eat dog/puppy foods that are too rich.I ended up buying a puppy food with lamb and rice:26-27%protein and 12%fat.Check the label!

look for a lower fat food, go and browse in the pet store:let them help you find a puppy food for dogs with sensitive stomach.

  5. the vet didnt say anything? you need to switch vets!!

when my dog had the runs from eating 2 lbs of chocolate he was on a strict diet of chicken and rice... like my mom had to make it for him idk the quantities and stuff though... hope that helps!

  6. what I do with my dog is that I would give her a small bowl with yogurt (without sugar and fruit and stuff) and white rice/ground beef (cooked) it firms up the stool. Or you can give your dog baby food. I would recommend baby food since he is a pup but in the future I would try my first idea. Trust me it works.

  7. I got this info from AllExperts.com: But don't worry too much about the soft stools right now, unless you see blood or something in them. You can give him a spoonful of plain, canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling!) and that should help to firm up his stools. The strange thing about pumpkin is that it works for both diarrhea and constipation!

Btw, are you feeding your puppy wet dog food? You might want to switch to high quality (organic/holistic) dry kibble for the time being.

  8. if the vet says its fine dont worry

  9. Try changing foods.  Our guy had the same problem you're describing, and then we got him off food with lamb in it.  Problem solved

  10. Buy lamb and rice and mix it with dry dog food.  If this doesn't work change your dog's food until you find one that doesn't do that.  Also, make sure he/she doesn't have worms.

  11. Is she eating soft or hard food?  Sometimes teh soft canned food gives them runny stools because of the water content.  Try feeding her hard food - its better for their teeth and preventing plaque buildup anyway!

  12. What kind of food are you giving your dog? if it is a poor quality food that could be the problem. Try searching the internet for a good quality dog food.

My dog had loose stools until we put him on Evo now he is fine.

For a while we had him on Iams then Purina Puppy chow and then we mixed Cesar wet and Dry together for a while cause he wouldn't otherwise. Now on Evo he actually eats the kibble.

  13. Dry dog food instead on canned...too much grease in canned
