Question:

Help with doing a front flip?

I'm trying to teach my friend how to do a front flip in the pool but she is just not getting it.

I continue to demonstrate it for her and she does some weird sideways turn and is constantly getting water in her ears.

So just give me some ideas of how to teach her!

Thanks:)

P.S. I don't have a trampoline to teach her front flips on!

  1. Tell her to tuck herself into a ball so that it makes it easier to flip in the pool. make sure her head facing her knees (when she is in a ball form). also tell your friend to blow bubbles out of her nose and she should be fine.

the sideways turns are usually a result of her releasing her ball form too early since she's not able to fully control the flip yet.

  2. First, have your friend do a somersault on the ground, carpet is better and softer on the head. Then, have her do somersaults in the water. After, have her do it in front of the wall. Finally, have her come out of her somersault 3/4 through and that's a front flip, known competitively as a flip turn.

  3. Have her watch you do the flip correctly multiple times, then go through the motions on dry land until she is completely comfortable. Show her how to somersault UNDER the water as well. That may help:)

  4. Tell her to contract her abs and dont slow down before the wall u will tumble and flip fast without even noticing it.  The mistake many swimmers make including my sister is that they slow down before getting to the wall so make that clear to her

  5. Tell her to imagine that she's holding onto a ball above her head. And then when she jumps off the board, tell her to tuck her legs in and pretend to throw the ball over her head. Make sure she doesn't over-rotate the flip, because that could be extremely painful! That should keep her from turning sideways.
