I stretch every night and have been dancing for many years, but I'm still not quite there yet. Can you suggest any good exercises and how long will it take?

  1. well yu jus got to go for it one day.jus strecth yur leg because yur body will only go as far as yu believe it will go.

  2. lunges. do a needle up against the wall. or so a needle at center and have your dance teacher push as far as it will go (or until you fall on your head...that is how i got mine all the way down...my teacher forgot i ddnt have it and then hyperextended my needle and i got it after that.) just make sure you are stretched REALLY GOOD. splits are the last thing besided backbend you should do when stretching. if you arent stretched you can SERIOUSLY INJURE YOURSELF!

    hope this helps

  3. you have to do lounges. {might have spelled it wrong} but when i cheerleaded we had to so splits. i couldnt go all the way dow i did lounges for about a week or two and i went all the way down... but u must keep doing them or u wont be able to do it anymore. i stoped and now i cant!

  4. welll.........

stretch night and day with excersizes such as:

  5. First things first: warm up! This way, you won't hurt yourself. I've been dancing since I was really little, and I've been doing martial arts for a couple of years now.

What you can do to build the stretch is doing high kicks, with your leg completely extended and toes pointed forward. Try doing twenty with each leg, then go down and do lunges.

Do one with each leg, bringing the hand on the side of the front leg outside your foot, and pulse for about 20 counts.

Then practice doing the actual splits.

  6. here are two ways ( id do both because i just started dance 3 years ago and did these and had the spilts in 3 months)

    1st way

go to a wall where there is nothing that can get in put your knee flat one thereslide in to your splits add then pull your foot towrd you bottom

    then on the other leg

if you only do this you will have your splits in ABOUT a month

    2nd way

lounge foward on the leg you want to do first then when you feel streched lean back but DO NOT MOVE EITHER FOOT then it ruins the whole strech then foward again and again go back but this time flex your front toe

and then lounge forward again then slide in too your splits

then repeat on the other side

maybe a week or two.. depends

    i hope i help !

  7. All I can say is ow!

  8. I can offer that if you aren't able to do them after this much time, you either have bad dance instructors, or a genetic problem that may require surgery, or is insurmountable.

  9. My friend is in ballet, and what they did, was take a bunch of thin pillows, and sit on them with their legs apart while watching T.V. Every so often, once you get comfortable, take a pillow out. It depends on how flexible you are already, but you could do the splits anywhere from a couple days to a couple hours. You will be sore for a while afterwards, though.

  10. I can't do a full split anymore but Id say just to keep working at it. I never could do a horizontal split with both legs out, only the kind with one in front and one behind. I was a cheerleader in highschool. Don't force it by any means!  I did that and got a big bruise and pulled muscle that took some weeks to get over. You'll get there.
