  1. tackle something pertinent; in the news. Right now effort is needed to push doctors who tell their pregnant patients who are carrying a downs baby that there are options to abortion.

    Very hot topic.

  2. maximize the power of the internet. surf! just type in "down's syndrome".

it's a chromosomal "accident" . no one founded it, but someone pioneered in its study.

    good luck!

  3. Downs Syndrome is a chromosonal disorder caused by having 47 instead of 46 chromosomes. This condition has recognisable facial characteristics, almond-shaped slanted eyes, small bridge of the nose, and a small mouth which often makes the normally sized tongue protrude.

There may be a range of physical signs and symptoms ; the hands may be short and broad, sometimes there can be webbing of the fingers, the feet very squared with a wide gap between the big toe and the other toes.

In some cases there may be heart defects that require surgery.

This syndrome does caused delays in a childs development, however, with early intervention, good support and input from a range of therapists (speech and language/physio/portage home learning etc) they can make good progress. People with this syndrome may be very able or they may have a more significant level of learning disability, it is an individual thing, but whatever the level of their intellectual function, the social aspects of their being are intact.

I believe that the syndrome was described by a doctor called John Down but don't remember the actual date. I think he was a scot.
