Hi I was looking around and found out about the pell grant. If im correct the only way to get it is if your a undergraduate or have a high school diploma. When I did my fafsa I was still in high school, so would it be possible for me to do it again so I can be eligeble for this grant and maybe others? And would I lose any of the grants I already have? thanks

  1. you need to file a renewal FAFSA every year. Fafsa apps are used to determine what grants, and loans and work study you are elligible for. if you have outside grants that you did not file a fafsa for, then good for you! good job.

if you are elligible for a pell grant but already have another grant, then they will only give you x amount of a pell grant instead of the full amount for tuition. So for example, if tuition is 10,000 per semester, and you have a grant for 3,000 then are elligible for a full pell grant of maybe 5,000 then you will be offered work study, and student loans to help pay for rest, unless you have scholarships and parents helping you to pay for it. Student loans are really nothing to be scared of either. You don't start to pay them back until you graduate or drop out, and the interest is very low, and they are only used to cover what grants and scholarships do not. I went for 2 years and only had a loan for 4,000 the rest was all pell grant. I pay 50 dollars a month for the loan, and the interest is 3% for mine.

file your fafsa asap and also look for scholarships along the way.

  2. You don't have to have a high school diploma to get aid from fafsa.  But if it makes you feel any better, the question is something like, "By the time you start college will you have earned your high school diploma or GED?".  So you probably filled out that question correctly.  If the Pell was not listed on your schools financial aid award letter, you probably were not eligible for it.  Call the schools fin aid office to be sure.
