Help with faux red leather wall wash?

hi i want to paint my bed room red with a black wash over it to give it a deep red leather look. does the red have to be bright or could i start with a deeper color?

I would think a dark red should do it.. Also make sure you do it in a glaze.

i would start with a brighter red but not too bright. just a little lighter than the true fire truck red. That way when you use the black it wont make the room feel to dark as opposed to a deeper red. but it all depends on the amount of natural and artificial light you have in the room
