I substitute teach while I am in school. I need to do a paper on a special ed. child and immediately thought of this child I worked with for a few months. He was diagnosed with something but I can't remember what it is. It is NOT ADD or ADHD. This child could be a very nice child BUT there was this very vocal side of him when someone looks at him, accidently bumps in to him or randomly he will just start yelling across the room whether it be in joking or angrily. He needs to be playing with things while the teacher is teaching the class. The teacher will be teaching and he will be under the desk playing and if you try to take something off of him, he will scream at you. He is extremely smart. He is very competative and feels he is smarter and better than everyone. If you cross him, he will tell you he thinks your the meanest and he hates you. Many times he will have an outburst and has to be physically carried out of the class. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

  1. Non-Verbal Learning Disorder? This is the mildest form of Autism, actually.

  2. Could be Oppositional Defiance Disorder

  3. Mmm it does sound a bit of ADHD and Asperger's syndrome which is high functioning Autism.

Check the link below and see if the characteristics of Asperger's syndrome is similar to what this young child was displaying.

  4. I am a para-educator, it sounds to me like a degree of autism.  Kids behaviors can be problematic. Frustration, impulsive, repetitive, outbursts, along with anger. Also the behavior similar to asperger along with ADHD. You can find out more on Para Educator Learning Network.

  5. It sounds like adhd I know u said its not that but this child acts similar to my son, he has to be the center of attention and will do things like your student is doing, this behavuor has landed my son in lots of trouble as he is 13 now and in trouble with the law becasue of his condition
