  1. There's a hidden cost with loads of Mega pixels, your computer will have to cope with much bigger files, so you might have to upgrade especially the amount of RAM.

Digital zoom is useless, discount it, it's exactly the same as cropping and your computer can do a better job of that.

The advantage of a lot of pixels is you can print large, as has already been mentioned, but you can also crop loads and still have enough pixels for a reasonably sized good quality picture.

  2. 6 mega pixels is plenty, unless you want to develop greatly enlarged pics.

  3. Hi, It all depends what you want to do with your pics. The more mega pixels mean the bigger the print size (10 mega pixel would do a large, almost poster size print without losing quality) It also means you can zoom further into photos on your computer screen, after you have uploaded them, without losing quality. I rarely use the actual cameras zoom function as the quality usually suffers, I prefer to zoom in later on the computer screen & crop (cut) the pic down to the size I want. Hope this helps

  4. Optical zoom is best - aim for MINIMUM 5 million pixels.

10 Million is just being greedy really if you are not a professional - not needed - honestly.

Samsung make some really great cameras at the moment and 5 - 6 million pixels for about £60 - £70. If you can find one - the Samsung S600 range will be fine for everyday use and for taking good high quality pics - had mine for over a year now and never let me down - added bonus - in UK most Samsungs have a two year warranty

Look here at all the Samsung range

ADDED - In response to your addition S1050 - You really don't need it or to spend that amount - the S range digimax's will be fine for you - if you are using it in a professional work environment then go for the 10 million - BUT to be honest - if not pro - you won't notice that amount of difference unless you want to print out massive photos and I'm talking about photos bigger than 2 feet x 3 feet.

No need - honestly - I have used my Samsung S600 to take pics and blow them up to 24" x 15" (custom settings) and they came out crisp and clear - you can take 100 photos on a 10 million pix camera BUT if your printer isn't up to the job then it will all have been in vain.

For everyday photos and showing the family on your PC or TV - you don't need 10 million pixels
