Question:

Help with finding a job as a casino dealer?

I have put is several applications and have been told by human resources that these casinos are hiring. Now I have been told that in order to really get a job you need to be following up on a regular basis to see if you can get an audition, maybe even get the name of the hiring manager and see if I can get an interview. I just need to know what is the best way to go to get hired. Any advice would be helpful.

  1. Twenty years ago I would have said you should walk into the casino dressed in black and whites and introduced yourself to the shift manager.  You would probably have gotten an audition on the spot and, if he likes you, be asked to fill out an application.

Now the process is so bureaucratized that you have to wait for an appointment for an audition.  It still doesn't hurt to speak to the shift manager.  What have you got to lose; are you afraid he'll be offended because you look like someone who really wants a job?

  2. Just like any other job, you'd have the best chance if you apply in person. Since you are applying for a customer service job, the appearance and attitude will be of uttermost importance. If I were you, I would go directly to the casino and "fight" my way to an interview on the spot. If anything fails, at least you'd know you wont be hired at that casino and could continue your search.
