Question:

Help with finding a job

I have allot of experience in the Medical and Dental field and in administration. I'm in my second year in college for my BS/BA. I have an excellent resume. Every time I interview for a job I'm told after the interview in a letter I'm over qualified for the job. Should I change my resume to look less qualified? I need a job.

  1. I work as a Recruiter and I never understood why anyone would tell someone they are over qualified.  If your willing to do the job for the pay they will offer why should I care if you have more skills than required.  I have managers tell me all the time this person is over qualified, I tell them there is no such thing, they either can do the job or can't  Some places maybe worried you won't stay long because you have more skills, or that you won't take the salary they offer, or you will be looking for advancement when they want you in a certain job for awhile, that or they maybe worried you won't find the job full-filling. Either way, it's that wrong way to view a potentially good candidate.  To answer your question, NO, do not dumb down your resume.  Your getting the interviews so your resume is really not the issue, it maybe more of what you say in the interview.  Look at what you are interviewing for and look at how you answer questions.  Your answers may tell them you won't be satisfied in the job, or you maybe answering to make it look like they won't have longevity w/you, or maybe you want too high of a salary and you say based on my exp and education I would like XX salary.  So it's something that is happening in the interview.  W/o seeing your resume, and seeing how you answer the questions it's hard for me to say exactly what the problem is.  I work as a Recruiter for 3 large hospitals and staff everything you can think of, in my own time I write resumes, cover letters, and reference pages, I also do interviewing consultations as a second job, but it's a passion of mine to help people understand the world or interviewing. So feel free to email me, perhaps I can help you figure out what is going on in the interview - free of charge, like I said it's a passion of mine and you seem like you can use the help.

  3. lol that must suck.I could never understand how someone could be too qualified for a job!! I could help you until you do find a real job. There is a legitimate program that you can try that is free to sign up,no fees, and access to a mentor if you need any help.Relax, there are no surveys involved, lol. This program offers a few different ways to earn extra income online a lot quicker than a 'regular' job. It's not a get rich type of thing. It's a way to make extra income part time or if you want you can go full time.I use this exclusively because I am a full-time student,I have other activities going on and prefer not to waste my time at a regular job. You have to be at least 13 and live in the US or Canada. If you're serious about having extra income on the side then sign up and check it out
