Ok heres the problem.

I have a firewire and one end of it is a USB which fits into my laptop perfectly

However the other end if a sort of square version of the USB and has the USB sign on top of it

The sign is exactly the same as the normal USB

The problem is the square does not fit into my camcorder.

Do I need to buy a new firewire or anything? Help please

  1. Consult your manual!! There is a whole section devoted to your answer. If you don't have one you can download one from the manufacturer support site.

  2. You've got a USB cable, not a firewire cable!  The port you're trying to plug it in to is probably labeled "DV Out", in which case you'll need to capture the video via firewire rather than USB.  If your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. Since you've got a laptop you need to check whether the expansion cards are PCMCIA or Express - they're not interchangeable! You'll also need a firewire cable, of course.
