i am obsessed with eating, my next meal, and how long its been since iv last taken a bite. i understand that i may have anorexia nerviosa (fear of gaining weight, an obsession with counting calories, etc) and i weight myself daily. i do not consider myself skinny, but i have lost about 30 lbs from a low carb and non cheating diet for almost two years now. i do not understand why i am so obsessed with food. i need help. i would like to see a specialist, but my parents who think im a freak for the way i eat now anyway (im 20 years old, away at school but am home for the summer) refuse to let me see a nutritionist. they think i just need to eat 'regular'. i cant bring myself to eat regular, all i do is think about food. why. answers. please.

  1. As soon as you get back to school go to your schools health center and talk to someone there, they will be more that happy to help you. I'm sorry your folks do not see the problem but I know they love you and are tring to help.

  2. The human brain is a perfect example of the self-defeating mechanism.  The species succeeds, but the individuals are unhappy...

We are mostly monkeys.  A monkey will see something small enough to put in its mouth, and *pop!* in it goes; just like a human baby.  We're designed to eat whatever we see.

Just in the last couple hundred years we've developed advertising.  Advertising drives the technological superiority of the species by CREATING needs within individuals.  Monkey see on TV, monkey buy.

This behavior is natural; as natural as breathing - but advertising creates more needs than just food.  It makes us want to be pretty.  Unfortunately, it's not easy to be pretty when you're stuffing your face with junk food.

Now we have a conundrum.  What do we do with the perfectly natural urge to pig out, when we know that we'll be ugly if we do so?  Obsession is born.  Some of us get it worse than others.

The only solution is to defeat yourself.  The human brain (even as monkey-like as it is) can TRAIN ITSELF.  You can reward yourself for good behavior, and learn to be the person you want to be.

The TV diet isn't healthy.  In fact, the food that surrounds us is so unhealthy that it requires every ounce of conscious effort to keep from reverting to the dumb monkey.  Unfortunately, this means that a person whom is obsessed with food is probably a lot saner than someone who's not - and a lot more healthy.

    Now that that's said...

Fresh, raw fruits and vegetables are the food that we are meant to eat above all else.  Monkeys eat leaves, fruit, vegetables, bugs, and dead, rotting meat that they find lying around, and sometimes mice or other monkeys.  They eat all of it raw, and most of it is plantlife.  I'm not saying that you should stop eating bread or stop cooking your meat.  I am saying that you should start eating plenty of raw FRUIT and raw VEGETABLES, and for heaven's sake buy organic.
