Going to london gatwick soon south terminal to fly out to mexico. I not sure what you do after check in!! I no that you got to check in 3 hours prior depature then proceed to security. Then I THINK you go into depatures where all the shops and all that is. What do you do next? Do you stay in there untill the flight goes? or do you go to a gate? if so when do you go to the gate and whats there? is that the last stop untill you get onto the plane? This probs sounds stuppid, but its my first time and dont want to miss my flight!! can somebody who has flew from gatwick south, please explain in detail what happends.

Thank you

Chris

  1. You check-in, get through security etc until you reach the duty free shops. Then you sit by the terminal your flight leaves from, or hang around that area so you can see when it's boarding.

  2. dont worry there will be sceens doted about in the roof with your flight on and every 5 minutes the screens update and if u keep check on your flight eventually it will say procced to gate then it will tell u either on your boarding card or on the screens which gate u hav to go to then u wait untill people start boarding the plane

  3. Hello,

Once through passports control and security you are in the Departure Lounge (which is where i used to work). You are correct that that's where the 'Duty Free' shops and restaurants are.

Keep your eyes on the flight departure screens and they will let you the status of the flight/plane. It will let you know:

    1) When to goto the gate - it is best not to go straight away as as all you do is sit in the lounge and once there you 'cannot' go back to the departure lounge.

    2) when the plane is boarding and

    3) is the last call to the lounge.

It's often best to wait a while when the 'boarding gate' sign goes up as often the plane hasn't even arrived and you have to wait for the passengers to get off, baggage to be unloaded and aircraft to be re-fueled, re-stocked and cleaned!

There is often nothing at the gate but a big waiting area and security etc depending on where you are flying to. You may be lucky and get a vending machine.

FYI: You probably already know re the security of travel at the mo but remember the rule of liquids going through security cannot be anymore than 100ml. HOWEVER anything you buy after security control can be taken on board the aircraft, including bottled drinks, fragrances and cosmetics in sizes over 100ml.

Hope this helps and have a fab time lol

  4. Once in the departure lounge, keep an eye on the tv screens, they will tell you when your flight number is called to a departure gate. Some gates are a fair walk, so be prepared ! They are usually called about 30 mins before boarding, Enjoy your holiday.
