Well i have this problem, and it reads find the general form of the equation of the line that passes through the given point and has the indicated slope. Sketch the line by hand.

And the points and slope look like this.

(-3,6) M = -2

(-2, -5) m = 3/4

I dont understand it and really need homework help with it.

  1. General form of a line is Ax + By = C

    you can use slope-intercept form of a line OR point-slope form of a line to get your answer.

    Point - slope form :  y - y1 = m ( x - x1)

    y - 6 = -2 ( x - - 3)

    y - 6 = -2 ( x + 3) ...distribute

    y - 6 = -2x - 6 ...add 6 to both sides

    y = - 2x...add 2x to both sides

    2x + y + 0

    y - - 5 = 3/4 ( x + 2 )

    y + 5 = 3/4 ( x + 2 ) distribute

    y + 5 = 3/4 x + 1.5 ...subtract 1.5 from both sides

    y + 3.5 = 3/4x...subtract y from both sides

    3/4 x - y = 3.5

    Good luck to you !!
