Help with getting to Fiumicino airport during early hours...?

We have a flight leaving Rome at 630am. I found out that we can take a bus from the Tiburtina station to the airport during off hours. Is there a bus or train that goes to this train station during off hours from the Termini station or should we stay somewhere near Tiburtina so we can make the train? Also how early should we arrive at the airport to make our flight? It's stopping in Munich to go back to USA. Thanks

  1. For at international flight they tell you to get there between 2 1/2-3 hours before which buts you there at 4 or 4;30. I dont know of public tranportion that runs that earlier. Plus just because there is schudled train or bus does not always mean it will show they do have very weird public tranportion strikes.

I found this online at the train website.

From Rome Termini: Trains to the airport start at 5:52 in the morning, with trains running at 22 and 52 minutes after the hour. The last train of the day departs at 22.52 (10:52pm)

From Rome's Fiumicino International Airport: Trains to Termini Station start at 6:35 in the morning, with trains running at 5 and 35 minutes after the hour. The last train of the day departs at 23.35 (11:37pm)

The train covers the 37 km in around 31 minutes.

So it does not look like the train will work! Sorry

  2. For a flight to the USA you should be at the airport at least a couple of hours before the flight, so the only option is to go by cab. It takes about half an hour, and should cost 45-60 Euro.

The most reliable company is the "cooperativa Samarcanda". They arrive on time, don't overcharge tourists, and always accept credit card.  You can book a can there by calling the number 065551.

  3. the easiest is to take the taxi at that hour, 40 euro flat rate from Rome to the airport plus another 10 euro for off hour rate (we took it in May, then I heard there was a strike because the rate was too low, double check with your hotel). Make sure you ask the hotel to get it for you as there are lots of so called legitimate "taxi" or "airport transportation" that charge you double or triple!

  4. The earliest train connection to the airport is from the Roma Tiburtina station at 5:05, but it doesn't arrive at the airport until 5:48. This isn't enough time to ensure you make your flight. The earliest train from Termini doesn't arrive until 6:23.

Cotral does run a night bus service to the airport from Tiburtina. The same bus stops at Termini on the way to the airport. The Termini stop is across the street from Palazzo Massimo. Departure times from Tiburtina are at: 12:30am, 1:15am, 2:30am, 3:45am and the normal bus service starts at 4 am from Tiburtina and also stops at Termini.

You'll want to be at the airport by about 5 to 5:15 am for your flight - people will be lining up to check-in by then. Another option from Rome is by cab (around 60 euro).

There is a Hilton Hotel at the airport with a walkway to the departure terminal. You could also spend the last night at a hotel in Fiumicino (the town) or Lido Di Ostia and take a cheaper cab.

  5. I am recommending you to stay near to airport. there are lots of hotels with walking distance to airport and most of the hotels supply transfer to airport  free of charge. it will save your money and time too..
