Help with getting video off of a dv cam?

Question

We bought a firewire card and cable and the pc detects the firewire card but any capturing programs say that the video capture device is not detected. We've tried Adobe Premier and Window's Movie Maker. It's a Samsung DV Cam and the card is a Rosewill RC501 if that helps. :/ I'm starting to get really frustrated! Please help. Thanks.

Have you tried WinDV?

I've seen it import where others could not.

You may need to install a specific driver or specialized software from the CD that came with the card.  The problem could also be caused if you already have a Firewire port.

* Check your computer.  If it was made in the past 5 years, you probably already have Firewire.  It may be marked as i.Link, IEEE 1394, or DV port.  It will be a single port near the USB ports.  You will need to check the back of desktops and the side and rear of laptops.
