i am writing a speech on global warming to my class, we each have picked a different topic. i have explained it and given many stats, along with explaining how some scientists think global warming is fake. how can i incorporate things on how this really DIRECTLY effects us? (like not just the weather and sea) i have a lot of scientific information but nothing really speech-y

  1. You can discuss the impact it will have on the growing regions and harvest reductions of major grains (wheat and rice, for instance).  Reduction in wheat and rice affects nearly every countries economy because they are essential to feed the masses.  When the masses aren't fed, political unrest occurs.

  2. Check out my blog, http://greencollarmanufacturing.wordpres... Real world examples and quotes from executives who agree that global warming is a threat.

  3. It will affect agriculture (what you can grow, where you can grow it and whether or not it will need water).  This affects food and clothing prices. It can affect forest (changing grow rates and species composition and what is available for building homes). That is basically shelter.  Bricks and concrete still require timber and mining typically causes far more damage to the land than logging. It can affect livestock as far as heat stress, but it may also extend the growing season and reduce the duration of harsh winters.  It can affect water supply.  Water may become more scarce in some areas that have not traditionally had to deal with droughts.  It could cause flooding in other areas.  It may increase disease vectors and diseases (eg malaria, dengue, yellow fever).  The US successfully eradicated theses in the south years ago because it was a habitat edge.  It will be more difficult if mosquito range expands.  Cost money to control mosquitoes and treat disease. Low lying areas (NYC and  Florida for example) may need to have structures build to avoid inundation by the sea.  More deaths directly due to the heat (like happen in Chicago and France a few years ago).

Some change will always will occur (some is natural), but human activity has resulted in a lot of the increase in the rate of change. Our actions can only slow the rate of change to give us more time to respond.

Hope this helps.  I was a researcher working on this (from the effect on forest perspective) 20 years ago - when there actually was a scientific debate about the issue.

  4. What I would do is dedicate a entire paragraph to how you personally would be affected, that way there is no wrong answer because it is your opinion

  5. global warming can make major cities underwater and Antarctica will become warm.

  6. it doesn't effect us b/c it's not real.

actually it does effect us b/c there r a lot of laws put in place 2 stop it, including a law that dictates what ingredients should be put in paint(communist law), which is ruining my dad's job as a paint salesman, and i'm worried about the future of my family.
