I have windows xp. it can take upto 1/2hr to boot & fully load everything. When ever i click on something it hangs & sometimes get blank screen with just a boarder around it, then it eventually loads. If i use cd drive it takes ages to 'read' the cd & get going. I have been able to cook a 3 course dinner whilst waiting!! LOL. What's wrong?

  1. One of the ways to speed up your system is to de-fragment your disks .

In RUN type " dfrg.msc" choose the disks and then de-fragment them . This will help to speed up the system.

Or you can try some softwares like TUNE UP to do this automatically .

  2. I think your computer is infected with virus. Install some anti virus and then try again.. I know one superb anti-virus software... Avira... aka   the Umbrella anti-virus.. Install this software ,,,remember to install the Avira Personal Free Edtion.  It might help..; Then go to

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?d...

then download the smartdefrag and install it .. It will help to clear some space in you HDD... Try these hope that they are useful...

  3. three things.

The processor is too low on speed. 1GHz or less.

Not enough memory hooked to the Motherboard... maybe 256mb or less.

Too many apps running while the computer is trying to load.

Respectively, check all the problems related to these three problems and see what you can do.

It has nothing to do with missing files or else it will notify you specifically, and it will also tell you if it has a virus on it or not.

  4. There can be many things slowing down your computer Temp files, resource hogging programs, viruses, spyware, corrupted registry, etc.

To save myself from carpal tunnel Id just recommend you download a good free PC speed optimizer like:

  5. 1 Run CHKDSK, it restores missing files.

    or

2  go to Start>Run and type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes, have your installation OS CD ready on the standbye That'll replace any missing or corrupt system files, keep clicking 'Retry' if your prompt untill the scan is complete..it works a treat.

  6. Three course meal and still does not finish booting thats just unheard of.  Sorry about that maybe this will help you.  Your computer could be hanging for many reasons.  The first thing you can do is cleanup your hard drive and you can do that by deleting any software you do not need by going to add/remove programs in control panel.  Then type msconfig in run from the start menu and clickt he startup tab and uncheck any programs that you do not recognize because the programs in this menu automatically start as you turn on your computer and if you do not use them or need them than do not let them start.  If you do not know what the program is than enter the name in goole and it will give description of the program.  Also, open your computer make sure to unplug the pc and than check for dust and remove if any with a brush or compressed air.  Also, scan for viruses by using avg antivirus software if you do not have virus protection and download spybot search and destroy for adware removal as well.  Try these steps first and see where they get you.  Good luck.

  7. First, add memory. Make sure your computer has as much memory (RAM) as your model of computer will handle.

  8. check the number of processes running (use taskmanager) make sure that its not to many (i run 22-26 with normal apps running like av etc).  Once you have these down to a respectable level get yourself scanned, try ... (in this order) ..

Combofix - Smithfraud fix - Hijackthis - SuperAnti Spyware - AntiMalware Bytes - reboot safe mode run bitdefender online scan (all apps listed are free)
