  1. I only feed my horses one type of hay and that is lucerne i have fed my 17 year old mare that all her life. and she is the healthiest best looking Tb in the district

  2. i would just keep using the same thing unless there is a major effect?

  3. i don't actually know what lucerne hay exactly is, but the person above me goin to the nfr, is right. but i think the best hay would be a alfalfa-grass mix, not straight alfalfa so it wont make your horses hot, and not straight grass so it stil has a lot of nutrients and it keeps them at a heathly weight.

  4. Lucerne hay is basically alfalfa and will not actually put alot of weight on a horse cereal hay like oaten is what will put on the weight.  Lucerne hay is essential in any stabled horse especially if no grass is available as it contains most of a horses recommended daily intake of calcium and iron.  My horses each get two slices or biscuits of good quality lucerne per day.

  5. It provides a natural diet for horses

it has protein, energy, minerals, vitamins and long fiber. It helps the horses digest also.

  6. The kind of hay you should feed your horse depends on where you live.  For instance coastal hay grows in Texas but timothy and clover does not.

  7. HI,

depending on the quality it can give them the runs. older and younger horses suffer most with it i have found it seems to go through them. find a qood quality grassey hay is best. horses have small stomachs and they are not like cows that have four they just have one. hay is very good digestive qualities and clensing qualitys as long as not being feed on a whole as its diet you horse will beifet from hay all horses need a good source of roughage in their diet but stick away from the really green stuff
