Help with hd tv please..it wont play hd channels?

Question

ok so i have a hd ready tv, but its one of the first ones so it doesnt have the hdmi socket at the back, it has a dvi one instead.we bought a little converter thing to enable the hdmi cable to go into it.which it does.but...we have a v+ hd box and we cant get the hd channels.it keeps saying hd tv not detected.so we went out and bought the component cables with audio cables and it still wont work. what do i need to do to get this bleddy thing to do what its supposed to do. in laymans terms please i am a girl.

Hi!

I think you mean you have a Sky+ HD box, which presumably means you are subscribing to the HD service ?

If you are using component, then you'd need to select the AV input that is marked alongside those particular connectors (for eg AV3 or AV4 etc).

If you can let us have the make and model number of the set, then we can offer more specific advise.
