Help with homework?! in chemistry whats the difference betw/ dependant and independant variables ...?

  1. a dependent variable is a variable which if changed would effect the values. For example, when calculating the pressure of an ideal gas, the dependent variables are volume, temperature and number of moles.

    an independent variable on the other hand would not affect the values at all.


  2. The dependant variable depends on what you do - the independant variable will change mo matter what you do.

    Time is a good example of independant - it will continue to change no mater what you do.

    Heat, distance, amount of something all can change as a result of what you do - therefore dependant.
