Okay, I am homeschooled and do all the main subject- art, history, science, language, spelling, algebra, chemistry, bible, everything. But I can get it all done in a couples hours. I only have about 180 hours of school sofar and although i don't need 600 my mom would like me to have that much by the end of the school year. We are trying to come up with ideas of things for me to do that will count towards school. I am in eight grade. I'm looking for easy essay ideas, good books to read, interesting topics to study- just ideas. preferably ideas that are either extracurricular, or pertain to language/writing/spelling, or art.

  1. Usborne books have some great art lesson books.

There are a lot of great sign language courses you can get either on DVD or even on the internet.

What about volunteering somewhere?   That looks great on any resume and application and is wonderful experience.

  2. There is drama, band, choir and woodshop as far as I can think. I don't know if they offer things like this for homeschool but there was a writing club that I attended, it was for all the writers from this county, called "Power of the Pen." You might also try some Home Ec. or Cooking?

  3. hi,how are u ,what do u like to do ,what your   hobies , u like it ,i mean,what vare u ding,contact me

  4. This sounds really odd, but one of the best things that we've found have been boy and girl scouts. If you don't want to be part of the group, at least get the books. The program is designed to share a huge amount of various activities to children so that they will find some things that are really great to them.

Scouting is wonderful because it is noncompetitive, it's based on teamwork, sharing, building up others, etc.

4H is very similar, our kids do both. I prefer the activities for scouting, though.

  5. We find ways to make just about everything count for school in some way. Try learning a new skill like cooking or sewing, or take up fencing. That's a non-competitive individual spot available for all ages, and at the fencing club i attend there is a very good mix of about half homeschoolers and half public schoolers. If you're in a homeschool group, suggest startinga  newspaper club and have a few people meet every week or so to work on a home school related news paper. Think of things you're interested in, anything at all, that you'd like to do some extra research on. The possibilities are endless

  6. How about 4H??? There are so many different kinds of clubs for 4H. My kids once did their dogs. This year my daughter is doing recycling. You can volunteer at a local food bank for credit hours or you can volunteer at a local library shelving books. You need to figure out what you like to do then go out in the community and go for it. You could also a project.....you say you like art so how about taking up mosaic art and research the past of it and then try it for yourself. Or drawing.....or scrapbooking this is lots of fun and you can make your scrapbook look however you feel it should not like the pictures! Good luck

  7. I'm in eighth grade too! in english we are reading 'A Christmas Carol' by Charles Dickens. We also wrote an opening of a gothic story! In art we are doing 'Still Life.' I also do Food Tech at school and i have made pizza, pasta, rice, appke crumble and soup, i had to do a project on cinnamon!

  8. Maybe I can help with some art ideas.

Wet Canvas is a really wonderful online artist community. THe members range in age from 9 to 99 with the median probably being in the late 30's. The members tend to be really devoted to learning new techniques and enjoy sharing their work and comments about your work. It is my favorite artists site on the internet. You can link to the home page at http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/index.ph... . Once ther, you will see a drop down menu with all the art channels. There are a LOT of them. There are specific channels for everything from specific mediums (watercolor, oils, acrylic, digital, etc) to sspecific subject matter (animals, protraiture, etc.). It is a rich source of tips, reviews, chat on art, and the fun of sharing your artwork with others and their artwork with you. Neat place! I only have time to paint over the Christmas holidays since we homeschool and I teach online. I have a few threads from last holiday: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthre... , http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthre... , http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthre...

I will be making at least one digital painting over this holiday season. If you find digital painting to be an interesting thing, you are welcome to drop in to my online classroom and I can application share the program. You would actually be able to watch everything I do in the program to create the painting and I can even turn the brushes over to you to give some of the techniques a try right inside my program. You can get the same program I use for about $20 to $30. Let me know if you are interested.

Other art oriented things you might enjoy is learning to use Blender. Blender is a free open source 3-D computer graphics and animation program. It is very powerful. My 13 year old loves it and has developed a good bit af facility with it. You can learn more about Blender at http://www.blender.org/

If you want toplay around with sound and making things such as radio dramas, you can try the open source program Audacity. You can do a lot with it.

Since you like writing (I am guessing), you could put many of the above together to make an animated short.
