i have a 58l tropical tank, tetras, danios, two clown loaches, two corydoras catfish and a platie. and i know theres one snail in there somewhere, but we havent added anything to the tank for months so its a mystery how hes got there.

anyway, i cleaned the tank out on saturday, well i've looked this morning and on the side of the filter and on the corner of the glass are little clusters of eggs, each cluster contains around ten eggs, there are about 40 in total. the eggs are clear with a white tint inside, circular, and about the size of the end of a thin felt pen.

so, are these eggs from my fish or am i right to suspect snails and should i remove them? because if they are snail eggs my plan is to get them out before they get chance to hatch at all.

  1. I doubt they're Cory eggs- More likely snail eggs. I personally haven't bred Corys(or snails), but snails are more likely to lay eggs than egg laying fish. Try googling pictures of snail eggs and Cory eggs, to see which your eggs resemble more.

If they are snail eggs, I would advise getting them out, unless you want to be overrun with the d**n things.

  2. They will be eggs from the cory's i would have thought.

  3. My corys layed small groups of eggs stuck to the glass and hidden behind plants so they might be corys. I don't know what sort of eggs those other fish have though.

If the the new water you put in the tank while you were cleaning it was a lower temperature that might have triggered the cories into spawning, you made them think that it was raining.
