hi, I have a PC/Windows XP. I'm new to the connection so If you guys give a high-tech answer, it would be a drivel to me... So in a compendium, can you guys help me change my ip address and list all possible information a person can have with another's ip address? Thanks

  1. Changing your IP, rather simple and there are a couple ways to do it. The best (read: usually fixes most IP related problems) way is to use the command prompt and run a Release and Renew

Navigate the start menu to "Run"

Type "Cmd" in the run line, opening the command prompt.

Type "iprelease" to force your computer to relinquish it's assigned IP.

Type "iprenew" to request a new IP address from your DHCP server.

Type "exit" to close the window.

That's it. Simple as that. In terms of what people know if they know your IP address, the answer is... nothing but a routing number. That's all your IP address is, a routing number. Unless it is statically assigned (which is so rare you'd know if it was), your IP address holds no correlation to any identifying information about you or your computer. In most network settings, you don't even keep your IP address for an extended period anyway. It's actually "leased" to your computer by a dedicated piece of hardware called the DHCP server.

  2. HELLO,

            SIR,

NOW U WANNA CHANGE YOUR IP

THAN U SELECT NETWORK PLACES AND THAN SELECT

LOCAL AREA CONNECTION AND GO TO PROPERTIES

AND THAN SELECT INTERNET PROTOCAL(TCP/IP) THAN

SELECT PROPERTIES AND GO TO ADVANCE AND

SELECT OLD IP-ADDRESS AND CLIK AND SELECT EDIT

BUTTON  AND THAN CHANGE IP-ADDRESS.. OK

  3. First of all, to MY knowledge the ONLY way you can change your IP is by changing YOUR Internet Service Provider (ISP/IP). HOWEVER....there are routes around this. But... only pervs and crooks care about whether or not someone knows your IP address.
