We are not driving, so will need train and bus info, places to stay (b&bs, agritourismo etc.) We are spending a week in San Remo area just chilling, so have 3 weeks left, and would appreciate an idea of how to best use this time

  1. a great place to stay in umbria is an agritourismo called L'Ulivo.  we found it through http://www.villavacations.com  the family was really nice and the little apartment we stayed in on their land was adorable.  its just outside of spoleto, a charming little town.  you are less than 2 hours from rome and another 3 or less to florence.  lots of towns are available to explore.  we really enjoyed staying in umbria and using it as our base to explore.  but check out the website, they have tons of lodging and good descriptions.

  2. If you go to Venice, go to Piazza San Marco, then just get lost.  Don't attempt to use your map, give yourself LOTS of time, and just let yourself get lost.  Also, if you want a cheap tour get on the #1 Vaporetto and it will take you the length of the Grand Canal.
