Help with jumping!?

Hi there, ok so I am happy jumping small jumps around 1'9 - 2ft but anything bigger than this scares me as I keep getting left behind or folding too soon. Over smaller jumps I can keep my balance but when my horse jumps bigger I end up falling onto his neck! Any advice. My jumping position is not the best either!!! Thanks for you help!

P.S. I am quite an experience rider but I have only started jumping in the last sort of year down to finding a good riding school! :)

  1. sometimes it is okey to be scared of jumps they are hardand not easy to do. u also need to be really close to ur horse to make it easier to trust the horse to jump okey. as u said a position is always like the main thing find a better postition and u will learn that in a riding school.

  2. Do you have a trainer?

If not, then when your just riding on the flat,  try working in 2point, without strippups to buil dup leg strength.

I learned how to jump riding bareback, and it helped me get a stronger jumpiong position. You may want to try that! Its fun. =]

    Good luck!

  3. Keep in a 3point up to the jump and DONT move until you feel the need to slighty close your hip angle when your horse takes off. your falling into his neck because your throwing your body at him, you need to keep still and let his jump close your hip for you when he jumps. keep your reins short so it keeps you in a 3point and keep your leg underneith you not infront of you

  4. Before trying to jump ride in your halfseat at th walk, trot, and canter just to strenghthen your legs

  5. Try riding a lot in your half seat (2 point). This is the position you should be in every time you jump. Practice your half seat at the trot and canter. When you jump, stay in your halfseat the whole time, even between jumps. This will help your position when you can sit between jumps, and will keep you from falling onto his neck
