Currently, I am raising 4 4week orphaned kittens. (mom killed by a car). They are eating wet food mixed with formula but their sucking urge is so great it's driving me and my kids nuts. They will suckle anything and everything, even if it's not good for them. Is there a product that I can use to help them finish out this need for sucelking. I don't know if my ear lobes can take it much longer.

Thanks.

P.s. not using a nursing bottle as they won't suckle on that, i have tried numerous times but they don't like it.

  1. My roommate's kitten has this problem.  I read somewhere that they continue to suck because they didn't get properly weaned from their mother.  Sadly, if the mother is now gone, they won't get that chance.  MY roommate's cat would suck on her shirt, which was cute if not disturbing.  She rarely does it anymore (she's now 1 yrs).  When she would try to do it to me, I would stop her from doing it and say "no" and tap her (lightly) on the nose.  After a week or so, she wouldn't suck on my clothes anymore. These kittens are babies so it will take some time to teach them not to do this.  They will also grow out of this phase eventually.  They may still do it occasionally as adults, but it won't be so annoying after they age a bit.

  2. try warmin milk and puting in a nusing bottle and i no you said that they dont suck on them but if you try warmin the nipple in the microwave they might like it because there moms was warm...or try getting a smaller nipple

ps..thats sad that the mom got hit by a car

  3. I can't tell you if it will turn out successful or not BUT I have kittens that are now weaned from the bottle but still want to suckle for comfort. I will wake up in the middle of the night with one on my ear, one on my cheek, and one on my chin!  What I am attempting is to allow them to suckle on my fingers but for shorter periods of time...like weaning them. They seem to be doing it with less frequency....we'll see what happens!

    Just an idea!

  4. get them alla binky lol . I don't know .

  5. I have found that large feeding syringes are better than the bottles.  Also, try enlarging the hole in the nipple of the bottle, it may be too difficult for them.

  8. I have a 7 year old cat who sucks on his own back foot, a 2 year old that ravages my chenielle blankets, and 2 10 month old kittens who try to nurse off of my MALE siamese.  All of these cats are from the shelter because they were abandoned by their parents and not weaned.  They never grow out of it.
