Help with kittens please

Hi everyone,

I have a litter of kittens- 5 weeks old this week. They have ben in a box since birth but we have been getting them out every day for a run around and a play.

I have just started feeding them kitten food - which they demolish within minutes. Im surprised how quickly they took to it! Anyway.. I have read that I should be putting them into a litter tray after each meal to train them - I have also heard that the mum will train them on her own. My queen doesnt seem to do be doing anything about their litter habits though? Im worried because I have put them into their litter tray a few times now and they keep eating the litter! One of them had a few lumps in her mouth today and I panicked and put my finger in to get it out - unsurprisingly she bit me (bloody hurt too)

What do i do? What is the best way to approach this? and how many sachets of kitten food should i be feeding them each per day? (I have 4 kittens)

At 5 weeks it is time for them to be out of the box and have access to food and water at all times.  I like to use Swheat Scoop cat litter which you can purchase at Petsmart or Petco.  It is safe if the eat it.  I have always had kittens eat the litter when they are learning to use the box.  I suggest to have 3 to 4 low edge litter pans filled with Swheat Scoop in the room that you have the kittens.  Also have hard food available at all times with fresh water for the kittens.  Best of Luck

they should be fine my kitty did it too and she was about 8 weeks!

To train them to use the litter box don't put them in it as soon as they're done eating, or of course they'll think it's food. Wait a half hour. For now feed them plenty, they're growing, and there isn't any precise way to know how much they should eat. If you see them getting fat give the less.

when we had kittens we didn't do anything to train them. i guess they just learned from their mom
