Help with laying down rocks in front yard?

Question

Hubby and I want to tear up the dead grass in our front yard and put more rocks down instead. How exactly do we do that? Do we use plastic or fabric sheeting for rounded peebles? Who do we get the rocks from? How much rock do we need? Do we need to take out enough dirt so that the pavement is an inch or two above the ground where we'll lay down the rocks?

Help us please! I've been searching around online for help, but there isn't anything!

What I would do is measure the area you are doing.  Look in your local phone book to find who sells and delivers rock and or gravel in your area and tell them the measurements.  They should be able to tell you how much and how deep your rock should be.
