Question:

Help with loop...?

i started learning loop a few days ago and have so far landed some alright ones, but i under-rotate 99% of the time and land with my blade sideways rather than gliding backwards - the tracing looks a bit like a very short 3 turn... does anyone have any advice on how to get the full rotation?

i also cant seem to get my free leg infront of me in the jump and tend to have it out to the side tucked up instead... tips??

thanx heaps :)

  1. Is a loop an edge jump or a toe jump?

If you answered edge jump, the answer is yes in theory.  If you take a closer look at a loop take off, it is actually a toe jump - you spring up off the toe pick and not the actual edge.

How far do you have to rotate in a loop?

If you answered 1 rotation, the answer is yes in theory.  If you take a closer look at the rotation of a loop jump, the skater is actually forward by the time he/she actually takes off.

So if you think about the jump, you get to jump off of the toe and you only have to rotate 1/2 turn.

Does this mean you are cheating the take-off?  Well, senior level skaters are getting full credit for triple loops that actually consist of 2 1/2 rotations - you decide.

Focus on landing on your bottom toe-pick too, so you don't create a large 3-turn after landing a little cheated.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Dont rush and jump higher. Everything is easier when you have more time.

  3. take longer time going into the jump. make sure you are comfortable. you also might not be curving the entry so you end up just taking off without any real force behind it.

  4. Jumping higher will help you with rotation problems, but it could also be that you are not pulling in tight enough. Especially in loops, trust can be a huge issue. When you don't trust that you can land it. You will end up coming short of rotation, and/or falling.

I give you gallons of good luck from a fellow skater!

  5. My coach always said this analogy: Pretend like your in a salon getting your hair done sitting in the chair. And you cant look until the stylest turns you around. You have to wait to hook the jump, you cant whip around the corner

its okay if theres a little bit of a flag aat the take off. like this---------< kinda like that lol

    Hope that helped!! Good luck
