I need to make a safe and simple toy for a project and am really struggling as all my friends seem to have the same ideas as me. I wanted to make a feely type toy but everyone is doing that. Can you think of something easy simple to make at home I dont have a sewing machine either. I am 13 thank you very much .

  1. Can you knit, crochet, or sew by hand?  You can make a stuffy (teddy bear, turtle, carrot, a ball).  Make it rattle by putting a few pennies in a small container (pill bottle) and putting in the stuffy.

Do you have access to a saw so you can cut wooden blocks?  Then sand them smooth.  It can be done with a hand saw or a jigsaw, but handsaws are safer and cheaper, they just take longer.

  2. what about a soother sorta thing. a soft fabric that they can cuddle up to.

  3. try www.enchantedlearning.com.you can get info about all sorts of stuff

  4. a mobile (to hang off a cot). all though it can be tricky to make.

  5. get a slinky and super glue a ball to it and super glue a glove or punching glove to the other side of the slinky so they can put their hand in it thats just something that i came up with just now that seemed like it would be entertaining to a kid

  6. get some super glue find two domes and fill them with beads (solid) then stick them together find a solid plastic straw and a plastic ring to make a handle stick them together and you got a baby rattle

  7. Make a shaker toy.  Use small plastic container with a child proof lid (like old medicine containers) wash well with hot soapy water, let it dry totally and fill it with rice.  (make sure all labels are removed)  If you have trouble removing extra sticky labels use eucalyptus oil and wash well in hot soapy water.

  8. What about buying a scarf and adding different material textures to it? You can put ribbon on, velcro (and put some velcro on a shop bought toy so that the toy can be velcroed onto the scarf) and other safe materials that you can pick up from a fabric shop. When you pick the fabrics out make sure they are safe by potentially thinking would a baby choke on this if I bought it? Make the scarf while someone is wearing it and visualise it being worn by the mum of the baby and not being worn and used as a toy for baby.

    Good luck.
