Question:

Help with making "shoes" that can be used to walk on water?

I have a project that requires to make shoe like objects that can float on water. The goal is to get from one side of a swimming pool to another. No more than $50 dollars for materials may be spent. The initial idea was to get wooden planks that would be supported by materials such as basketballs and use them as shoes. If anyone has any better suggestions, please answer.

  1. Get a life jacket and use material from it. Think of things used to save people in water.

One of those giant floating mats could help (layered of course).

  2. From what I know, you need to have your "shoe" supported on both sides, like a plane that lands on water. Slide slowly forward, not lifting up at all, and go very slowly. The front needs to be like a hull of a boat so that the water doesn't pull it down. You can't have any water be able to go into the shoe or gliders on the side, or it will pull you under. Boats are made a certain shape for a reason = stick to the basics of how a boat is built! You have to have a counter balance from your height equal to the length of the 'shoes.'

  3. I would go down to the home improvement center & get some of those big sheets of styrofoam insulation & use that.

  4. Hmm well you also have to think about support, lifejackets a good idea but they arnt very sturdy and you will sink a little making it hard to walk. The idea of walking on water is being light. Your idea is actually pretty clever try and make them very spread out across the water so it alows your wieght to be spread out. Good Luck!
