  1. i know for 2 you have to find the slope of the two formulas.  If the two slopes are the same, they are parallel because they are going the same way.  If one of the slope's is the reciprocal of the other...inverse, then they are perpendicular

  2. the two lines 2x+ky=3 and x+y = 1

    Convert to slope form

    2x + ky = 3 --> y = (1/k)(-2x + 3)

    x + y = 1 --> y = -x + 1

    a) parallel...

    -2/k = 1 --> k = -2

    b) perpendicular?

    (-2/k)(1) = -1 --> k = 2

  3. 1. A linear regression line is a line of best fit. Given a set of points, there is an equation that will give you the slope of the regression line, and another equation that will give you the y-intercept of the regression line.

    2. The lines are parallel when they have the same slope. Write both equations in y-intercept form to get:

    y = (-2/k)x + 3 and y = -x + 1

    a. if parallel, then -2/k = -1 which implies k = 2

    Two lines are perpendicular if their slopes multiply to -1.

    b. -2/k * -1 = -1 which implies k = -2

  4. i don't know number 1..

    2) a. k=1    b. k= -1
