  1. Holy %#@*, I thought the one in a hundred number was for experience in the criminal justice system.

What the h**l is wrong with you people?

From the NY Times article, "1 in 100 U.S. Adults Behind Bars, New Study Says ", February 28, 2008 it says

"Nationwide, the prison population grew by 25,000 last year, bringing it to almost 1.6 million. Another 723,000 people are in local jails. The number of American adults is about 230 million, meaning that one in every 99.1 adults is behind bars."

  2.      It should be 3,000,000 since,

                  1/100 = n/300,000,000

            n x100=100  =  300,000,000 x1=300,000,000

                 *Then/ 300,000,000 :100=3,000,000

              I might be incorrect, but. . . .

  3. 3 million

  4. 3 million is right

  5. 1 in 100 represents 1% of the population

So you would take 1% of 304,000,000

    304,000,000 * .01 = 3,040,000

  6. If 1 in 100 are in jail then 1% are there therefore 304,000,000 * 1%=3,040,000 are in jail
