i am signed up for biomedical engineering at uc davis this fall, the coursework required for medschool outside the major really makes for a overful schedule, looking at summer school or a 5th year, basically im still confused and looking for advice on which majors prepare you best for medschool, and other things i should be looking into doing and like what years of school i should shoot for doing them ( like interships etc). also any other advice on the path to be a doctor would be greatly appreciated - right now im interested in orthopedic surgery or pediactrics (sp?), but then again all i know is i want to help patients in person

  1. Yeah it can be kind of tough trying to complete a degree as well as fulfill your pre-reqs for medical school. It is okay if you have to do an extra year or extra semester but make sure you study hard for the MCATs. Medical school is 4 yrs long and depending on your speciality, the yrs of residency vary. I suggest you doing an internship, the summer of your second yr, take your MCAT the spring or summer of your 3rd yr and volunteer all throughout college. Good Luck!
