Help with message "Fan Failure" on Optoma projector?

I have an Optoma EP747 DLP projector and it has worked great for several months. We went to turn it on recently (it's used in my house as my TV) and it turns on, and then the message "Fan failure shutting down" pops up, and it turns off. I hear the fan to cool down the lamp come on as it turns off, I don't know if there's another fan. I haven't opened it up to check it out yet. And I realize I can call support but today's Sunday, and dealing with a company that I can't take it to a local store I have to ship it makes it a big hassle.

  1. Sorry to say your going to have to send it in and get it fixed.

  2. I have had problems with my EP739.  Not so much of the fan failing but if the projector is on for 30 min plus the color in the picture becomes skewed, the lamp indicator blinks and the projector turns off.  I found that popping the front cover off allowed for better ventilation but at the expense of excess light in the room.  I took it a step further and dissected the projector and found that there are four minuscule wires coming from the motor on the color wheel that became detached due to the heat from the bulb over the 2.5 years that I have been using the projector.  I'm in the market for a new one now.  Try to vacuum out the projector and get all the dust out.  I think that may solve your problem. Mine went down saturday night. :(

  3. we used to have a similar problem with our high end lighting systems fans...usually there is a sensor that looks like a paddle somewhere in the airflow...what sometimes happens is that dust and lint can collect and prevent is movement. a very gentle dusting with a soft brush or canned air was our solution. on some equipment they used a different type of sensor reading fan current flow.. those , im sorry to say need professional diagnostics to fix.
