Help with money for sons tutor?

My 12 year old son needs toturing so bad. And I can not afford it. Due to illness in the family I am snowed under in Medical bills. We have no medical insurance. Anyhow he has severe learning disabilities and I can not find any scholorships to help. Does anyone have any ideas? He is such a sweet child and not a behavioral problem at all. If i had to describe him I would say he is extremely talented. And his IQ is above average. He just can not get it from his head to the paper. Thanks to one and all in advance

Each state has some type of disability office. In S.C. it i the office of Disabilities and Special Needs. On the local level their is the Disabilities and Special Needs Broad. I worked for them before becoming a Sp. Ed. teacher. The case worker can help you find help. They also have family support funds that you may be able to get.,You school social worker should be able to get you started.

if you live in california, youre in luck...try to get more information on this company " cambrian home care" and ask if theres any way they can help. i know they are federally funded and offer certain hours to families with children with disabilities. i actually work for that company...give it a try

I understand your frustration. First, does the school your son attend have a homework center? Often this is a group of students who meet after school with very dedicated and caring teachers for homework help, it is free.

If this is not available, advertise at the local college for an education major to tutor and explain you cannot pay. The student should be able to get credit for tutoring your son as part of his/her academic program.

Finally, approach your child's teacher and ask if there is anyway, s/he can help your  son. Many teachers have office hours where the students are given the opportunity to take advantage of teacher time by coming in and asking for help.

I would also suggest that you call an IEP meeting immediately and have the added help added to his IEP. He is entitled to all the assistance he needs to help him achieve academically. If he has processing problems ( getting thoughts from his head onto paper), the IEP team should have noted and included this in the IEP. Something that might also help is having his homework modified. If he is having problems, he should be able to record his thoughts and have someone type them up for him (teachers are reluctant to offer this as an alternative because it CANNOT be used during statewide and federal testing). Hiring a private tutor for one-on-one tutoring is the best way to go. However, if money is an issue, you can opt for online tutoring instead. Try some online tutoring services like:

2) http://www.tutor.com - tutoring by professional tutors (not free)

3) ... and many more (use search engine).
