  1. Buy a car so!

  2. Im in the merchant navy and i work for the coastguard so im used to mooring small and large boats. When mooring a small boat it is important to approach the berth against the tide so that the tide acts as a brake. give yourself a long approach if you can and come in on a fine angle. As you start getting nearer the berth slow down gradually so that the tide holds you in place alongside the berth. now you have plenty of time to secure your mooring lines!

  3. Get the Harbour Master to help you, if he's got the time !!!, and if he hasn't, ask some other boat owner !!!

  4. all the great navigators had problems mooring boats, captain cook christopher columbus even captain pugwash. if you make a mistake stop!! think , have a look at whats going wrong then when your ready redo it.  its not a car in traffic nobody can hurry you or beep the horn. your boat is a very expensive piece of equipment, but theres something more important on that boat and thats you and your passengers.  i wish i could be more helpfull i know nothing about boats, even getting on the ferry i'm the only knobend with a life jacket on.

  5. always moored into the current or tide helps slow you down, do a coarse will be cheaper for you in the long run, less money spent on repair bills.

  6. I'm afraid you won't perfect your skills here. Every boat handles differently in different weather and current. It's a great excuse to get out on it to practice your skills.

Have fun, practice on imaginary mooring buoys and docks, out where you can't get into trouble.

  7. Just sing this little dittty out loud the next time you feel panicky whilst mooring your boat.... here goes.....

I know a song that will get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves,  I know a song that will get on your nerves, get, get, get on your West Ham Reserves, Oh I  know a song that will get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves,  I know a song that will get on your nerves, get, get, get on your West Ham Reserves, Yes I  know a song that will get on your nerves, get on your nerves, get on your nerves,  I know a song that will get on your nerves, get, get, get on your West Ham Reserves

I think the chorus went something like this, if memory serves me right, lets ponder for a second, ah yes I know it now.

    Repeat 60 times

Aye Aye Skippy sorry Skipper, DOH!
